How To Develop Court Dominating Basketball Confidence (Like The All-Stars)

Sunday, February 14th, 2010

Congratulations. Give yourself a couple of seconds to pat yourself on the back (3 times)

Go ahead. Do it. No one’s watching.

“Rali, Why Should I pat myself on the back 3 times?”

That’s easy… by reading this article you’ve just placed yourself in the top 10 % of all basketball players in the world who actively search for tips, tactics, knowledge and expertise on how to improve one’s basketball skills and produce better “on the court” results.

I know reading an article doesn’t seem like much, but it shows commitment, desire, and interest in improving your game and becoming the basketballer you know you can be. (Very few ballers show this and have this kind of mental attitude)

Think about it, on any given basketball team how many players have personal trainers/coaches? How many have some basketball improvement DVD’S or books at their home? How many players have attended basketball camps and clinics to learn game-changing basketball secrets?

It’s 10%. That’s it. I know this because I’ve done the research. I’ve owned a basketball transforming company for 6 years and those are the numbers. You’re now in that top 10% of the most committed, determined, and unique basketball players in the world. And that’s why you should give yourself a pat on the back.

So let’s get rolling with the secrets and tactics I’ve used to help non-confident ballers transform their game, shatter their fears, and easily develop unstoppable All-Star basketball confidence.

In this article, I’m going to show you 2 things:

First, the real reason behind your lack of self-confidence, what’s causing you to hold yourself back from shooting the ball or making a play, and the mental reason why you’re afraid of making mistakes out on the court.

And

Second, How you can easily develop unstoppable basketball confidence so you can step out on the court and produce the basketball results you’ve been picturing in your head (dominate the game, perform all-star plays, scoring 20 PPG or more, and wink at the cute cheerleader on the sideline with style =)

Self confidence in your soul, is equivalent to gas in your car, without it you go nowhere. Lack of self-confidence will get you on the bench or even worse, in the stands. It’s vitally important you know these secrets so you can build your self-confidence to that of an all-star.
Are you ready to inject a shot of “mental confidence’ into your game and life?

Let’s go!

So you’ve come to the realization that you’re not confident out on the basketball court? That’s a sour feeling. I know how you feel, I’ve been there myself. Now, let’s take a look at what’s really going on, and how you can easily destroy you lack of self-confidence forever.

What you really mean when you say “I’m not confident” is “I’m uncertain”.

You see, certainty is a one of the 6 human needs we all MUST have in order to live well and perform functionally. When it’s absent, all kinds of weird crap goes on in our head (including lack of self-confidence).

You’re uncertain of what’s going to happen in your next game. You’re uncertain whether you’re going to make your next shot. You’re uncertain about making the basketball team. You’re uncertain about making the right play.

You see, all a lack of self-confidence really is, is a lack of certainty. Here’s a real life example:

If you take a look at where you are right now, while your reading this article, look at the roof over your head. You’re absolutely certain that the roof above your head is not going to cave in. Your certain that it’s not going to crumble or fall. You’re certain that you are safe.

If you weren’t certain about the roof above your head, would you ever go near it? Would you ever walk under it? Would you ever put your bed under it?

I didn’t think so.

The same rules apply with you and your basketball game. Your lack of self-confidence is really just a lack of certainty. The only reason why you hold yourself back is because you lack certainty. Lack of certainty is the only reason why you’re not the basketball player you want to be.

Okay, so we’ve identified the problem, that’s good, but it doesn’t produce change. Only the solution produces change. Let’s look at at the real solution to destroying your fear and lack of self-confidence once and for all.

First, don’t’ take your lack of uncertainty personal. It has nothing to do with you. It has everything to do with your future. Your future is always unknown. It’s always uncertain. The only reason why you lack self confidence on the basketball court is because you’re focusing your thoughts on your fears. You’re thinking about what you don’t want to happen.

But it’s not personal. Brush it off and say, “I’m uncertain of what’s going to happen tomorrow, I’m going to do my best and go after my dream anyway.”

Second, stop focusing on what it is you fear. Fear Stands for False Evidence Appearing Real. Having your mind focused on your fear is the fastest way to develop lack of self-confidence. There’s a success saying that goes a little something like this, “You become what you think about.”

If you don’t believe that, go take a look in the mirror and see if everything you think you are is reflected back to you. How you think you look. What you believe. You literarily become what you think about.

You see, the mind is a goal striving mechanism, what you think about you bring about. What you focus on becomes your reality. What you believe becomes true. What you pay attention to becomes important and intensified.

Third, lower the intensity in your mind of how important producing whatever result it is you want to produce on the basketball court. Ask yourself, “From a 1 to a 10, how important is it that I do________”. If you are lacking self-confidence I’m sure that number is at least a 7 or higher.

How much would you think about it if it were only a 3 or lower? Would you still be afraid of messing up or making a mistake?

Nope, you wouldn’t care. And that’s the attitude you have to take. You have to know exactly what it is you want. Seriously committing yourself to getting what you want. Work your tail off and learn the secrets and tips others have used before you to create a similar result. And give it your best when your number is called and an opportunity is presented.

But, with the understanding, while in pursuit of your dream, you are going to make mistakes. They are inevitable. You are going to mess up. Don’t take your failures or mistakes personally. A mistake is a teacher. A mistake is a learning experience.

When you make the mistake or you mess up, recognize it, don’t take it personally, and understand the correction you need to make to guarantee you never do it again. Mistakes are not bad, but making the same mistake over and over is mental suicide.

My last suggestion for you is to stop comparing yourself, your talent, and where you are right now in your career with others. When most ballers feel inadequate or lack self-confidence, self-comparison with other players usually is lurking around. It’s a dream destroyer.

The only person you need approval from is yourself. Now if you live with your parents, there are some rules I’m sure you have to live by, but by all means don’t seek approval from anybody else. And never compare yourself to other basketball players. You have no idea how long they’ve been playing. How much training they’ve had, how many hours a week they spend working on their game, or who they’ve learned from and been coached by.

Comparing yourself is ridiculous. It will not make you better. If you want to make a goal to get to the level of play that another player is playing at, by all means, go right ahead. To pick another player as a target and say you want to be better, or as good as him or her, is healthy. But comparing your game and talent with another player is disastrous.
Don’t do it.

I’ve just shared with you some of the secrets I’ve used to transform ball players so that they can achieve their goals of being an all-star and playing college ball. The secrets I just revealed are easy and simple. Don’t take them for granted. Anything complicated is normally to hard to incorporate. It’s the simple secrets that produce an incredible change in your game.

How To Improve 3 Point Shooting For Basketball

Tuesday, September 16th, 2008

Three Point Shooting Is Essential in this days Basketball Battle, but have we gotten a little
carried away with living behind the arch? Would it be more effective to take a shot
10 feet from the basket or closer? I have detailed what I believe is good, and bad about
3 point shooting. Knowing how and when the 3 point shot Is most effective is crucial to
your basketball success.

I don’t know how you feel about 3 point shooting but I think it stinks.

And here’s why-

Let’s first look at what 3’s can do, and why they are effective.

How can they benefit you and your team.

1. For starters- you get an extra point.

2. When you make a 3, it helps build momentum, the crowd gets excited, your teammates
get excited.

3. It’s a great way to get back into a game fast if your in a hole.

4. It helps spread the court, there are more driving lanes, driving angles, and it allows for
more room to operate in the paint.

5.It keeps defenders honest, if your a good 3 point shooter, your defender will be very
reluctant to leave you to double team some one else or be a help defender.

6.It’s a confidence builder, as I stated in the 2nd benefit, it helps get the crowd involved
but also builds the confidence of the player that made the 3.

Those are all great benefits that come from making 3’s

And there are probably a lot more.

But here’s what most coaches and basketball players don’t understand.

1. 3 point shoots obviously have a lower made percentage

2. There are very few players that could really be considered great or good 3 point shooter’s.

3. It takes away from other areas that players are much better at- example- Dwane Wade
settling for a 3 pointer instead of driving to the basket, I don’t know about you, but If I’m
the head coach of the Miami heat I much rather see wade drive to the hole then shoot a 3

4. Shooting 3’s completely change the pace and time of a game.

When you shoot 3′S there are less fouls called.

Less fouls called lead to less time to rest.

Less time to rest means faster fatigue.

Faster fatigue means MORE mental and physical mistakes.

More mental and physical mistakes means more chances and easy opportunities your
opponents have to score and capitalize on your mistakes.

When you shoot three’s, it increases the other team’s fast break opportunities- long
rebounds, which gives them more chances to score when you and your team is not
prepared or in position.

It also helps your opponents fast break opportunities because most of the time the
player that is guarding the shooter that shot the three will leak out in front and very often
you see that player that was guarding the shooter get a wide open lay up on a fast
break due to not getting back quick enough.

And, in most cases, when 3’s are being shot, weak side help and rotation is average
at best, meaning here are less chances of offensive rebounding.

When you drive to the basket, the defense rotates, in most cases, leaving a small
player trying to box out a forward or a center, if there is any rotation at all.

So by driving the ball you also dramatically improve the chances of offensive rebounds
for your team.

The Sixers use to live of the offensive boards anytime Allen Iverson drove to the basket.

Shooting 3’s, and more importantly, making 3’s are very effective and beneficial, just as
long as you use it to your advantage and understand the pros and cons of them.

It can be one of your biggest assets and could help win a lot of games- Phoenix Suns-
but it could very well be one of the major roles played in your team’s destruction and
source of underachievement.

If your a good shooter, and your open, and feel confident enough to not just take the shot,
but make it then by all means:

SHOOT THE BALL AND MAKE IT.

But if your strongest aspect of the game is driving to the basket, or shooting 15 footers,
then by all means, take it to the whole with confidence and purpose, make the other team
guard you.

They will fatigue faster, you will build game winning momentum and dictate the Pace of the
game, you will draw More fouls and create more opportunities for your teammates while
giving your team a great chance of winning the ball game.

One thing to think about:

When you shoot the ball, do you expect to shoot it, or do you expect to make it?

Most players just expect to shoot IT, the great ones expect to make it, and will settle for
nothing less.

How To Guarantee Your Basketball Skills And Talent

Tuesday, July 22nd, 2008

One of the worst things you can do when it come to achieving your Basketball goals is failing to Set them and knowing exactly what you want. Let me explain:

IF YOU DO NOT HAVE A SYTEMIZED, Over Proven BLUEPRINT for setting your goals and allowing yourself to achieve them, you are dead in the water (I mean It!)
Keep this in mind… “Failing to plan is planning to Fail” Read That Again:
“Failing to plan is planning to Fail.” Do you Understand what that means?

It means if you do not have a plan, you’re going to fail! You should, and must have a plan for your workouts, your goals, getting exposure, developing your game, and an action plan. If you don’t have ALL of these, you are making a huge deadly mistake!

Let’s get something straight, this is really important so stop what you’re doing and pay attention!
You have to Dress and act the part that you want, not the part that you have! Read That Again:
You have to Dress and act the part that you want, not the part that you have! If you want to become ALL-STAR baller in the pros, you have to dress and act like one…

Well Rali, how do I do that? I’m Glad you asked. You see, All-STAR ballers in the pros don’t let things like relationships; family, Friends, and obstacles get in their way… They do not let all these little things get in the way of their Dream, and that is what makes them amazing!

Here are some things that ALL-STAR Ballers Do:

-They dedicate their whole life to basketball

-They commit themselves to the game.

-They sacrifice certain things like hanging out with friends, significant others, family members to practice and focus on their game.

- They practice when they are tired and feeling lazy.

-They eat proper nutrition, get plenty of sleep and do not poison their body with things like alcohol and drugs.

-They will do whatever it takes to be the best… No matter what!

-They believe that they can be the best, no matter how good or great the competition is!

And the list goes on and on…

Do you get my drift? These are just a few of the things that you are going to have to start doing right now if you even want to think about being an NBA-All-star.

Here’s what I want you do right NOW! Not in five minutes after you eat, or not in 2 minutes after you get done reading this. Go get a piece of paper and something to write with… You got it? Good, let’s continue.

I want you to title the piece of paper: “What I will do To Achieve My Basketball Goals” Then I want you to write down your basketball goals, very detailed, where you want to play, what position, how many points, assists, boards you will average.
Exactly what you want to achieve as precise as you can get. How many games will you win? Championships etc…

Right underneath your goals I want you to write down all the things you are going to do to achieve those goals.
Just like all the things The NBA ALL-STARS do. Write down all the things that you think another baller that failed to achieve their goals would not do (this is powerful) If you do all the things that basketball failures would not do, you’re going to be in great shape. If you think this exercise is silly, Don’t! This is exactly what
I do with Some of the amazing pro ballers I work with, and it works.

The last part of this Exercise is to put this up where ever you spend the most time at, your kitchen, room, computer desk, car, etc…
Where ever your going to see it the most, the better. This will allow you to keep your head focused and remember what your goals are
and all the things that you are committed to doing to achieve those goals.

The Basketball Trick You’ll Swear By All Summer

Thursday, May 22nd, 2008

Dear Hooper,

This message is so important to the success of your game,
I want you to stop whatever it is your doing, turn off the
T.V. , the back round music, and tone out any background noise.

It’s that important.

Jordan
Kobe
Iverson
Lebron
Garnett
Magic
Kareem

And the never ending list of previous, and current,
all-stars all have at least one MAJOR ‘Success Habit’
in common,(probably a lot more).

What is it?

Glad you asked.

They all believed before they got.

They all perceived before they held.

They all started before they where ready.

They all pushed when they thought of stopping.

They all defeated themselves before they ever won a game.

What about you?

If your in a pot hole, seemingly struggling to crawl out,
understand what you do today, what you do right now, will
determine your future.

The ballers that try to improve their game
never get anywhere.

The ballers that do improve their game always
see and experience MASSIVE growth and improvement.

Which one are you?

Stop thinking about failure and defeat and START
embracing success and victory.

Think about the future, about your goals, your dreams,
and how THRILLED your going to feel when you reach
them. Let go of the past.

Your best days are ahead of you. Your brightest days
are ahead of you.

Your clearest, most successfully days are ahead of you.

They can’t wait to see you.

Can you see them?

Hear them cheer you on.

See them right now.

You where born to be great.

But you already know that!

Do you hear all of the individuals reading this
right now applauding you for not giving up?

Hear them Roar and Cheer.

Here is a concept I want you to allow to become
apart of your body, your bloodstream, your mental file.

The Anatomy Of Basketball Success And Failure

Saturday, May 10th, 2008

Brought To You By

Before I spoon feed you the key to ‘Real Life’
Basketball success and or failure, please be
prepared to forward this ‘jammed packed’ email
to anyone you know that might need a little help
and a help full kick in the butt.

They will thank you and so will I.

Let’s get moving.

Success or failure.

Discipline or Regret.

They are both your choice and responsibility.

They are!

Hear me loud and clear on this one.

You’ve got to choose discipline versus regret because
discipline weights ounces and regret weighs tons.

You see, the regret is an accumulated effect a year
form now or two years from now when you didn’t do the
easy discipline.

Most ballers, and people for that matter, don’t realize
that what they do today, what you do today, will
tremendously effect how you will feel tomorrow.

Don’t be one of them. Don’t be like this.

Make the change you want in your life right now, so you
will be happy with the decision tomorrow.

Regret or discipline, it’s your choice and only your choice.

From now on, when you think of something that you want to do,
or should do, just ask your self this simple question…

” Am I going to not DO this and regret it tomorrow, or do I
have enough discipline right now to make my self happy for
tomorrow?

It’s a simple question but yet so power full.

Start working on yourself and who you are and you’ll finally
start Producing the results you’ve been dreaming about.

How To Improve Your Basketball Skills

Thursday, February 7th, 2008

Dear baller,

Whether you know it or not, admit it or refuse it,
get it or don’t get it, the mental aspect of your game
is just as or maybe even more important to yourbasketball
success than the actual skill you have or hold.

Without mastering the mental game, your talent
will never fully be displayed or cultivated. It’s just that simple.

This is what I call:

“Ball With Your Heart, Think With Your Mind”

This installment of My ” Untold Basketball Secrets”
newsletter is very important to the development and
improvement of your game.

So Pay attention!

Bring your seat in. ( a little closer)

Buckle up cowboy.

What does “Ball With Your Heart, Think With Your Mind”
mean to you?

Think about it for a second…

Your heart is where your passion, motivation,
commitment and feelings are held.

It’s what gets you out of bed each day.

It’s what pushes you further every moment.

It’s the one part of your body that “won’t” give up.

It’s the feeling you get when you hit a game
winning shot.

It’s the power that runs all the energy in and
out of your body.

But what about your mind.

Well your mind is where all the ” I can’t, I won’t,
there’s no way” dream destroyers lay.

Slaying dreams left and right.

Like a Paid assassin

If you let it, your mind will be the destruction
of your life.

Many people can attest to this.

So what I’m asking you to do is, play with your heart.

Don’t let the clutterness or evilness of your
mind tell you what you can or can’t do.

People have always aid, ” If you have love for the game”
you will be successful.

Let your heart be the leader of your live.

Let it disperse love, commitment, joy, and
happiness all over your life and everything
that you do.

Defeat someone AND you will be a winner

Defeat yourself and you will be a leader.

Defeat someone and you have won the war.

Defeat yourself and there is no war.

Allow your heart to be the guider of your life.

Let it be the savor of bad times, disappointment,
and struggles.

Use it when your mind says, ” I don’t feel like it”

Your heart will guide you to greatness, you
just can’t let your mind guide you to destruction
first.

How To Improve Basketball Speed

Tuesday, January 22nd, 2008

I was at a College game the other day and It
reminded me How much faster the Pros were
Compared to these ‘ Up And Coming” Boys.

I must have seen 20 different plays where a
defensive player was beaten in transition.

If there is one thing I can tell you, It’s to
never get beat by your man in transition,
Coaches (especially college coaches)
HATE THAT!!!!

In the pros we have a few simple guidelines
to follow when it comes to transition.

If you can’t do it, then you simply don’t play!

Here are the guidelines…

===============
Pro Transition Rules
===============

On offensive, on a fast break after a rebound
or turnover, Each player has a certain amount
of time to get to a certain position on the other
side of the court.

If you are a point guard, you have three (3)
seconds to get to the top of the key on the
other side of the court with the ball.

If you are a wing guy( shooting guard or small
forward) you have three (3) seconds to get to
the opposite wings.

If you are a big man( center or power forward)
you have four (4) seconds to get from rim to rim,
ready to either catch the ball for low post position,
or to get a rebound.

Now I don’t know how fast you are, but these
times are unbelievable.

Here is what I want you to do this week.

Either with your team, teammates, or even
by yourself, go to a court and try to get to
these spots in these times ,

Try as hard as you can, without getting injured
to reach the times I set above.

You will get a feel for JUST how fast the PRO
Game is and how much work is involved.

Here are the times again:

If you are a point guard, you have three (3)
seconds to get to the top of the key on the
other side of the court with the ball.

If you are a wing guy( shooting guard or small
forward) you have three (3) seconds to get to
the opposite wings.

If you are a big man( center or power forward)
you have four (4) seconds to get from rim to rim,
ready to either catch the ball for low post position,
or to get a rebound.

Continue to work on them until you can
achieve these times.

Even ask your coach if they can implement
a drill in practice including the whole team..

Stay Tuned for some more Revealing Pro Secrets.

Until Next time.

“There are drills but no like the ones you see on “magic johnson fundamentals’.

What All-Star Ballers Focus On.

What All-Star Ballers Focus On.

Have you ever wondered what seperates the Star From the Bumbs, The “talk Of the town ” Studs form the bench warmers?

Well if yu haven’t noticed, there is a big difference between the Real Ballers and the wanabees.

they act different, they train differemt, and more important, they thin differently.

How?
I’m Glad you asked!

I wish.

Oh, I wish I got this point years ago when I was
floundering in the ocean of ‘baller scatteredness’.

I didn’t. I can’t go back, but now I use IT and I want you
to.

The All-Stars Ballers are different than most Hoopers.

***Different in the way they spend their TIME.

You see, if every baller did the same things and spent their time the same way they would all be the same. But that is definately not the case. There are alot of Average ballers and very few Basketball kIngs. Just take a look at the NBA. How many basketball players are in the league, and how many ballers want to be in the league. There is a reason why there are only a select few thata are actually in the Pros and there are literarly millions of other ballers that wish they were int he league.

Follow me here.

I am very good at very few things. I have to admit that. There is more I’m not good at then I’m good at. I’m not alone.
Take a look at Some of the most dominate players in the pros and see for yourself exactly what I’ am talking about.

Let’s go down a short list.

Steve Nash = Passing
Iverson = Driving to the bucket
Raja bell = Defense
Jason Jidd = Play Making
Kyle Corver = Shooting Long Bombs
Tim Duncan = Post Domination
Kobe Bryant = Destroying his competition

Have you noticed what made these Ballers GREAT was being good at 1-3 things?

Unbeliveable isn’t it?
I can gurantee you that those Basketball Payers are not good at much more things they’re good at. Like Shaq For example.

Yes he is the most unstopable force basketball has ever seen. But why does he dominate?
Is it because his ball handiling skills, or his lethal long range distance, or is it because he is automatic from the free throw line?

No. No. And No!
It’s because he is great at dominating the paint. That’s It!

Successful Ballers have identified ’something’ the masses haven’t.

Not only have they ‘found’ it, they’ve cultivated it.

They’ve developed it.

Dominating the hardwood and becoming an envied Star has been the result.

Here is the Key Secret to remember:

The Studs Spend their time utilizing and MAXIMIZING their strengths, not
maximizing their weaknesses.

The Stars and GREAT spend 80% of their time in their
’strength zone’. If you spend 80% of your time in an area that you were
strong in and enjoyed, how Great would your results
be?

Exactly, that’s my point.

Great.

You don’t need 10 strengths to dominate the court You need
1-3. That’s it.

Ask yourself:

If I was going to spend 5% more time in areas I’m good at,
what actions can I take now? I believe in you. I believe your strengths can make a huge difference in Your Results.

Are you ready to tap into them, invest more time there, and
go for what you want?

I thought so.

Push yourself today. You’d be amazed at the gallons of
power hidden inside you. Truly amazed.

Karl Malone

Ok, I’m a bit “old school” with the name of this drill, but gave it this name many years ago when Karl Malone played exactly like this drill. Got the rebound and would be out on the break passing and catching for dunks.

I truly think this is one of the best team drills you can implement. Great for team camaraderie - working towards one goal with skills that are within reach of all your players:

1) Catching and making passes at high speeds and 2) Finishing with a made layup.

I like to run this drill for 5 minutes (some nights right, some nights left). We will have a goal for made layups, usually set from our best score to date. Always try and raise the bar.

This is how the court should look to begin. You need at LEAST 10 players to run this drill…no less. The line next to the basket in the direction you are going on each side must have at least two players. (see #2 / #3 and #1 / #9).

Player #1 and Player #8 start together running up their respective side lanes. They must pass to the first person in each line while running down the center of their lane. They must run with their hands up so as to quickly receive and deliver the next pass.

They receive the ball back from each line as they are running and then will finish with a made layup. They DO NOT run towards the line to make the pass, rather, they must run down the center of their lane catching the ball and making the next pass. THE BALL DOES NOT TOUCH THE FLOOR!

When the playes are finished making the layups at each end of the court, they will continue running out to the end of the line, freethrow line extended on the other side. Let’s look at the rotations as they run up the floor.

Let’s look at the right side line. As #1 passes to #2 and then gets the ball back, #2 will run behind #1 and to the center position where #4 is standing.

#4 catches the pass from #1 and passes back quickly to #1 and then runs behind #1 to the back of the line, behind #7, free throw line extended.

As soon as #6 passes back to #1, #1 goes in for the layup with #6 right behind him to rebound the ball out of the net.

#6 now takes the ball up the other sideline while the person who just made the trip, #1, runs behind the player waiting free throw line extended, #1 in this diagram.

This same action is taking place on the other side of the court.

When you get really good…try adding one more ball…start him in the middle and watch this drill really take off! No room for error!
